The side effects of Skydiving

By: Skydive Carolina

Are there side effects to skydiving? More than you know! If you’ve not yet made a skydive, you may want to lean in as we’re going to share some insights that only those who have jumped can understand – this is so much more than an adventure ride!

SKYDIVING IS GOING TO RANK

Firstly, if you think your skydive is going to be something equivalent to a roller coaster – you’re dead wrong. You won’t walk away from this experience thinking, “that was fun.” Skydiving is going to rank as one of your top five life experiences – up there with childbirth, marriage (or divorce) or winning the lottery! This isn’t hyperbole… this is the real deal and the reason is part chemistry and where you are in your life, today. Let’s break it down!

SIDE EFFECTS OF SKYDIVING – EMPOWERMENT

The first great thing about skydiving is you’re going to be tested, mentally and physically. You will be faced with making a huge decision – should you jump or sit? Contrary to popular belief, no one is going to throw you out of the plane. The decision is up to you and it’s not an easy decision scooting towards the open door of an airplane while the frigid rush of air hits you in the face at a mind-numbing 10,000 feet. Everything in your being is against this decision! So, you will be tested. You can back out and ride the plane down (which does happen on occasion).

Feelings of empowerment wash over you when you achieve something by making a conscious effort to go through discomfort to reach a goal. That’s what skydiving is going to be. As you sit in the door of the aircraft and your instructor asks, “Are you ready to skydive?”, your positive acknowledgment is going to leave a lasting effect on you – not immediately, but for weeks after as the significance of that decision sinks in. You never imagined yourself to be an adventurist, but it’s empowering to know that deep down, you’ve got the stuff to do big things in your life! If you’re able to do this, what other big things would you like to achieve but haven’t accomplished because you’ve let your own personal doubts deter you?

If skydiving does anything, it will challenge you to do more with your life.

SIDE EFFECTS OF SKYDIVING – HAPPINESS

There’s something physical that takes place that will equate to a happiness euphoria and that’s the incredible high dosage of dopamine that will wash over your brain and ooze from your pores. Dopamine is the natural happiness drug that eases stress and ups the happiness quotient by 10. When people ask the all too common question, “Why would anyone jump from a perfectly good plane?” The real answer is “For the dopamine!” No drug or level of exercise (unless you win Olympic gold) will make you feel this happy and feelings of happiness is addictive!

We’ll reference our friend, Antuan as a case study for this:

LONG-TERM EFFECT OF SKYDIVING – PERSPECTIVE

When you reflect on your skydive, you probably won’t think of the free fall, but rather the time spent under your parachute because that’s the moment where thoughts of life perspective occurs. There is clarity in this space as you contemplate if the things that burden you are worth it and how the life you wish to lead are just a few conscious decisions away. Skydiving forces you to step away from your worries and allows for clarity unfettered by the crap that awaits you back on earth. This perspective is invaluable and for some have been life-changing.

SKYDIVING SIDE EFFECTS ARE REAL

In the last 6 years, we’ve had the privilege to jump with thousands of first-timers and our experience has taught us that skydiving is a special event that has positive side effects more than most would anticipate. Too often, the media focuses on when things go wrong, but seldom look for the stories that go beyond the superficial to learn how lives are positively impacted by a sport that gives much more than it takes.

We hope you’ll join us to experience first hand, the positive side effects of skydiving! Learn more about Tandem Skydiving at Dallas Skydive Center!!

Why you should skydive on your birthday!

By: Skydive Carolina

IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN FLY IF YOU WANT TO …

THREE REASONS WHY BIRTHDAY SKYDIVES ARE THE BEST IDEA EVER.

We think the best day to go skydiving is any that ends in D-A-Y … but we’re kind of obsessed like that.

Others like to wrap their skydiving experience up with a big bow of top-shelf badassery in celebration of something mega, most commonly a milestone birthday. Whether you’ve got your sights set on 18 when you can make your first tandem or you’re crossing the threshold into a new decade, skydiving on your birthday is the most exciting, empowering and exhilarating way to spend your big day.

We have around 365 reasons for skydiving on your day, but if you’re reading this you likely need little convincing of the awesomeness in store, so we’ll distill it down to our top three reasons to have a birthday skydive:

1) MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME

You know that funny buzzy feeling you get in your tummy on your birthday? Yeah, multiply that by a thousand. Cake and cocktails are cool, but nothing compares to spending the day on an epic adventure fueled by adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine. Literally, best day ever …

Pro Tip: Get the video. Not only will you watch it a hundred times over, but you’ll also share it with any and everyone who will watch it too. Can you say, social media gold? (Don’t forget #dallasskydivecenter!)

2) AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

Tell your pals your birthday skydiving plan and you’re bound to gain at least one sky-high companion (check out our group rates if everyone’s down) and a whole posse who can’t wait to cheer you on from the ground. Oftentimes, people who are on the fence about making their first tandem need just a spritz of encouragement before they commit to finally doing the damn thing. Sharing a day in the sky with the people you love the most definitely falls in the gift-that-keeps-on-giving category.

3) BRAGGING RIGHTS

Celebrities and everyday people alike who go skydiving on their birthday make headlines because it’s a friggin’ amazing story.

George H. W. Bush skydived on his 75th, 80th, 85th and 90th birthdays. This past Summer, Will Smith jumped to celebrate his 50th and Sean Diddy Combs jumped (separately) to mark his 49th. Even Diddy – who has the resources to do anything in the world – called his skydiving experience his “BEST BIRTHDAY EVER”.

And every day, we make dreams come true for people who are celebrating their day in the sun.

Whether it’s you we’ll soon be seeing as your ring in your personal new year or you’re an awesome friend/parent/significant other hunting for the perfect birthday gift, be sure to call us about our gift certificate options.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you. Blue skies!

Does Size Matter?

Does Size Matter in Skydive Centers?

Dallas Skydive Center

For most of us skydiving is an unknown realm of confusion. Anticipation of free falling fill your head like a kid. But where does one go to jump from a perfectly good plane? Skydive Centers can have multiple turbine aircraft or two guys and a single engine Cessna can do the job too. The truth is in this case that size doesn’t matter. What matters is your preference . Kind of a big fish little pond idea.

At Large Drop Zones

At large drop zones, you will find lots of experienced skydivers from all walks of life. All walks of fame and fortune skydive. You will also find the newbie area of folks that are not sure if the decision to jump from a plane for the first time was a good idea. This is the realm of confusion mentioned in the beginning. Skydivers are unique. Skydivers are diverse.

First time skydivers or Tandem jumpers are usually left in a waiting area for one of those experience jumper to come take them on their first skydive. In the middle group, less noticeable, skydivers learning to jump, or more correctly, jumpers learning to skydive. Now mix in grandma and uncle Roger who came to watch the 1st. jump of their newly turned 18 year old finally exercising her privileges as an adult. You get the idea, lots of people, lots of confusion, lots of anticipation. In the crowd of emotion, as a member of any of these groups it becomes easy to be no one. Large drop zones are for some.

Small Drop Zones

Small drop zones usually offer similar skydive experiences but on a less defined hierarchy. The first time skydiver is probably in the same group as the 10,000 jump world record holder. The planes are usually smaller so these skydive centers are more homogenized than their clicky big brother. Small centers give the less experience skydiver and the low time jumper equal and non judgmental access to the experienced jumper. This interaction is not found at the bigger skydive facilities and can make the difference in your experience. A small skydive center is for you if you prefer small towns. If you would rather mix it up in a crowd and make a name for yourself then go big. With drop zones, size matters.
